We’re excited to announce that Sarah R. Schmitz, Claims Examiner, Aaron T. Stone, Vice President of Claims, and Kenny Smith, Risk Control Manager, will present at the Public Risk Management Association’s (PRIMA) 2015 annual conference on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The conference will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.
Schmitz’s session, “Are Your Employment Practices About To Go ‘Up In Smoke’,” will review the implications of legalizing recreational and medical marijuana for government entities. This includes a brief overview of how government entities should handle drug screening, the differences between recreational and medicinal usage and what entities should include when updating their employment practices policies. The session will be presented twice, first on Monday, June 8 at 2:15 p.m. CST in Room 320 A, and again on Tuesday, June 9 at 2:15 p.m. CST in Room 320 BC.
Stone’s presentation, “Harassment: Beyond Racial and Sexual in Nature,” will outline behaviors that can be defined as harassment and how to prevent such harassment based on religion, nationality, sexual orientation, equal pay, retaliation, age and disability. Attendees will also learn effective employee training techniques, policy enforcement and how to measure the effectiveness of those policies. This session is being co-presented with John J. Hightower and Brian J. Beagle from Olson & Olson, LLP, on Tuesday, June 9 at 9:45 a.m. CST in Room 310 C.
Finally, Smith’s session, “Fleet Risk Management: More Than Vehicle Inspections,” will review national auto claim trends and discuss suggestions and insights for reducing auto liabilities. Attendees will also learn about the implications that culture has on fleet management. Smith’s presentation will be held Tuesday, June 9 at 11:15 a.m. CST in Room 350 DEF.
